If you decide to ban Flash from your Mac you will likely need to do a custom install of any Adobe products and unselect Flash when installing (if even possible with your particular Adobe suite). This strategy of keeping Flash off of your Mac should keep it stable and performing well until the day when Flash is really gone from the web (can't come soon enough). Then, choose Develop > User Agent > Safari iOS 4.x.x iPad and then reload the page to get the iPad version for that browsing session (will go back to default when Safari is closed). To fool a site into delivering an HTML5 version (that doesn't require flash) of their web site to Safari simply enable the "Developer Menu" from Safari > preferences > advanced > "show Develop menu in menu bar". If they do require Flash you can either use Chrome, or some sites will offer an HTML5 alternative. Even if you use Safari you can often get around needing Flash as many sites that use modern coding no longer require Flash for video. As a web developer (that hates Flash) I use just about every browser on the Mac (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera) but recently changed my preference for a primary browser to Chrome.
Instead, I simply use Chrome for any browsing that requires Flash.
Simply search Google for "Flash" and you will quickly find hundreds of discussions why Flash should go away for many reasons from performance issues, crashing, and being a continual source of web vulnerabilities.įor that reason I have recently decided to not install the Flash plugin on my new iMac at all. I personally refuse to install Adobe Flash on my new iMac.
I can however give a personal recommendation that may work for your situation. I'm not sure what's causing your Flash issues but found that many others are having similar issues ( ). By simply downloading the latest version of Chrome from you should get the latest version of Chrome including support for Flash. Chrome actually has Flash integrated by default and therefore I'm not sure that you can even install it separatly if you wanted to.
